He started negative roles, when he was 13 age. At the age of 22nd year , he started main role in big dramas like satya Harishchandra, and got appreciations from all over the state.

Special Role: In the history of Telugu stage maya bazar is a an attractive play, which was started form 1978, R.Venugopal Rao, has acted as Ghatotkacha and well received by veteran stage artists,and political leaders and chief ministers of AP. He got special award for his performance of " Satya Harishchandra" form Ex-Chief Minister Sri Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy on 05-07-1992 on behalf of AP Government.
As a Director: He is not only an actor, expert in another art form in Direction. Under his direction many plays were staged like Maya Bazar, satya Harichchandra, BalaNagamma, lava kusha, Sri Krishna Leelalu, Bhaktha prahalada, Patala Bhairavi, Sathi Savithri, Sati Anasuya, Kuru kshetra , chinthamani etc. He gives melodies tunes for his stage by playing Harmoniam, cashioo and key board.

New Drama:
Mr. R.Venugopala Rao, is still on duty to stage new dramas like "Srinivas Kalyanam. This play was written by Sri P.S.R.Anjaneyulu writer. Under guidelines of very good dynamic IAS officer Sri K.V.Ramana chary the then E.O of TTD, this play is being staged in all 22 districts Another IAS officer, Sri C.Parthasarathi is also supporting in all ways .
Dinaker as "Srinivas" Dinaker, young actor son of Sri R.Venugopal Rao, is an attractive figure on "Srinivas Kalyanam" as "Srinivas" and his daughter Smt.Shanthi as Padmavathi. Another sons Chandra mohan, subhaker are perfect not only in They are acting , but also expert in stage technicians. Sri R.Mohan Rao only brother of R.Venugopal Rao is also actor and Harmonist and a responsibility manager of Sri Vinayak Natya Mandali . This mandali is being run successfully by the both brothers.
